Sport Injuries
Following sports injury, you may not have been able to resume your previous form. Remedial therapy will take into account issues which have not been successfully addressed by physiotherapy, to help you to achieve greater improvement or full recovery.
Loss of Mobility
Although a bone fracture is healed, it may leave you with impaired mobility. This is because the ligaments, tendons and muscles near to the site of fracture are bruised and not functioning fully during the long period of healing. Muscles in the area of fracture and neighbouring joints may have lost strength. Sensation around the area may still be affected, including your sense of balance if the spine and lower extremities have been injured. These symptoms may also be a feature of living with arthritis or diabetes.
Pain Clinic
Some people continue to suffer pain, many years after a road traffic accident or after having a disc prolapse, for example. Also, many people with arthritis need to live with continuous pain and disability due to the deformity and inflammation of joints. Remedial therapy is helpful in resolving or reducing painful conditions or learning how to manage pain with specific exercises, to reduce or eliminate the need for pain killing drugs.
Neuromuscular Disease
Neuromuscular disease affects nerves and the muscles which they control, causing a loss or change in mobility and balance. This includes conditions such as Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis. If you have a neuromuscular disease or have suffered a stroke, remedial therapy may be able to help you resume or maintain normal daily activities, depending on how the disease has affected your body.
Post Infection
Patients with conditions such as ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis)/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome, which are caused usually due to viral infections such as glandular fever or hepatitis, may benefit from remedial therapy. Sessions focus on controlling stress and strengthening the body with exercises, and manual therapy to improve blood circulation to muscles. Overtime, improvements in the chronic weakness of the immune system can be achieved. |
